Bucks Integrated Sensory Service (BISS)


 
Buckinghamshire Integrated Sensory Service (BISS) provides support for adults and children who are visually impaired, deaf, have a hearing loss, or are deafblind. Carers, families and professionals can also use their services.
 
They provide a free assessment in your home to find out what support you may need. This is carried out by one of our team who will help identify solutions, support and equipment to maximise your independence and wellbeing.
 
Examples of services provided following assessment are:
 
  • Registration of hearing sight and dual sensory impairment
  • Support to help you manage everyday tasks
  • Equipment demonstrations and practical advice such as – audible/visual doorbells or how to cook safely.
  • Information on hearing, sight and dual sensory loss
  • Communication support for deaf children and young people
  • Educational and social mobility for visually impaired and deafblind children to support independent travel
  • Access to local activities, recommendations and referrals to other services, voluntary organisations and groups e.g. social clubs, low vision services, health services, transport and benefits advice.
 
During the covid pandemic, local services have beend scaled back but help is still available via the national Royal National Institute for the Deaf website at https://rnid.org.uk/information-and-support/
