“At Valley Plus we aim to ‘bring people together’ who live in Marlow Bottom, especially if they are recently retired and find time on their hands, we help them to make new friends of both neighbours and other residents in the valley. We invite likeminded people to join together as a social and activity group, providing members with information and giving them a voice on local and national issues. We also offer members regular monthly meetings where we discuss local issues and host interesting guest speakers. The range of subjects is wide and includes subjects as diverse as ‘Learning to fly’ to ‘Bee Keeping’ and ‘The History of Taplow Court’ to ‘The Secret Service in World War 2’. Recently BBC Reporter Bill Hamilton spoke about his career ‘Good News, Bad News’. Later in the year Robert Thorogood author of Death in Paradise, Marlow Murders, The Queen Of Poisons etc. will be our guest speaker. We also organise a packed programme of events throughout the year including coach visits to fascinating places, these have included country houses like Blenheim Palace, to exhibitions such as ‘Icons of British Fashion Exhibition’ and visits to places of interest such as Beaulieu, Brighton and Portsmouth. We also organise regular visits to the theatre to see plays, concerts and shows, these have included The Mill at Sonning, Brick Lane Music Hall and also West End Theatres. We are always open to suggestions from members on things they think would be good to do or for events or unusual places to visit, such as the Medical Detection Dog Centre, Brooklands Motor Racing Museum, Hendon RAF Museum or Bicester Avenue Garden Centre for their Christmas event and Bath taking in their Christmas Market. We also organise seasonal meals including a Christmas dinner or an afternoon tea both with entertainment at a local venue. Other events we organise includes dinners, quizzes, games events, films, river trips and tea parties. Our current meeting place is St Marys (Lantern) Church Hall in Marlow Bottom, which has excellent facilities and we meet on the last Tuesday of the month.
